Redesign Concept

LinkedIn is a major social network focused on networking, business, and careers. The platform includes functionality for finding people, companies, job openings, events, and related information.
Recently, I started exploring the capabilities of this social network and came across several issues that I decided to improve — along with adding new features that could attract a wider audience and generate new revenue for the business.
Work plan
I deliberately avoided a complete restructuring and the “copy-from-the-best” approach, since I don’t have access to the platform’s objective data and analytics.

Instead, I followed a common strategy:
1. Created a survey to help confirm or refute whether I'm focusing on the right and relevant problems.

2. Based my work on data from SWOT analysis, CJM, and JTBD frameworks.

3. Assembled a UI kit.

4. Conducted 5 interviews that helped refine the early versions of the layouts.

5. Improved the layouts for core user flows and added new features.

6. Developed the visuals and explored opportunities for a refreshed brand identity.
Sections I worked on
LinkedIn is a vast platform, so I decided to focus on improving the core pages and features (desktop + mobile).

Pages:
1. Network;
2. Profile page;
3. Statistics page;
4. Feed.
Tools:
1. Navigation;
2. Profile enhance;

The Problem I'm Addressing

Thesis
Communities that help users "boost" their accounts are highly relevant right now.

These are spaces where professionals from different fields promote their LinkedIn profiles and offer mutual connections. The idea is that this boosts account visibility and leads to better networking opportunities.
The Problem
I see this as a serious issue because the very mechanism of "fabricated" activity disrupts the algorithms and undermines the purpose of working with them. Additionally, this trend negatively impacts the motivation and loyalty of new users towards premium features: why should new users post content and follow the platform’s recommendations if they can quickly increase their contact list through other, faster methods?

Redesign Goal

1. Improve the motivation system through gamification, with the potential for monetization. Benefits for both users and the business.

2. Revamp the navigation of key sections to make it more intuitive.

3. Propose a new UI along with a few features (as a practice exercise).

Mobile navigation

Let’s examine the navigation issues in the LinkedIn mobile app, using the transition to "My Profile" as an example.

The mobile app is an adaptive version of the web platform.

It’s possible that the business doesn’t see a need to improve the app since it delivers the expected results.

Profile edit

I added a "Pricing" section and a "Cover and Avatar" setting to the profile edit modal window; also modified the UI.

Statistics

The Analytics page hides a very important block with recommendations, which is intended to give users advice on how to promote and develop their profile through specific tasks.

I have already shown the redesign of the Statistics block on the profile page, which is next to the entry point for the task-based game form.

Career track

A new feature that allows quick switching between a person’s Work, Courses, and Educational Institutions.

The feature is presented as a linear timeline by years, divided into three categories.

This tool is designed to visualize a person’s activities over time, with the ability to quickly view information about highlighted places.

Task map

A mechanism designed to partially solve the problem of "inflated" contacts and "empty" profiles, and to motivate users to actively develop their profiles through gamification.

Weekly tasks are defined by the system, and users can complete them in a "game" or regular format.

For example, if the user publishes a new post this week, they will receive rewards to customize their "digital business card," as well as more opportunities on the platform: more new contacts, a trial premium period, improved search ranking for their profile, and more.

Web Card

An advertising element of the platform and a new format for portfolio resumes.

Want to "pin" a company, important position, or project to your CV?— Attach it with a carabiner and add a link to it.

The recipient will see a brief summary of your achievements and be able to contact you immediately.
